ONE-EYED THERAPY DOG HONORED WITH YEARBOOK PAGE - “Tank has become so popular, he has a page in the school’s 2012 yearbook…”
Tank, a Bulldog/Shepherd mix, is a popular therapy dog in Georgia despite having only one eye and limited vision in the other. Tank was discovered by his owner at the Polk County Animal Control Center and adopted. Thanks to an organization called Compassionate Paws Inc., he trained and is now a certified therapy dog. Tank is so popular that he was honored with his own yearbook page at the Van Wert Elementary School. Read more from The Cedartown Standard:
Today, he is a healthy, happy dog but his start in life wasn’t so bright.
Fortunately for Tank, he attracted the attention of Gail Posey at the Polk County Animal Control Center. A volunteer, she admired his spirit despite the fact he had a damaged eye, the result of allergies and ulcers…Tank then started a training program for therapy dogs. He completed it and qualified as a one-year-old, the youngest age an animal is accepted…As a therapy dog, Tank can go to nursing homes, hospitals and schools.
Tank has become so popular, he has a page in the school’s 2012 yearbook. He is featured with his photo and the words “Reading Buddy.”
Under the wrong circumstances, Tank may have been written off as an unadoptable dog due to his medical issues. Someone gave him a chance and he has returned the favor a thousand-fold. Click here for the full story and here for more about Compassionate Paws.
Heartwarming Tearjerker of the Day: Twelve-year-old Damon Boyer-Marwood was walking home from school Thursday when he heard an animal cry, so he followed the sound. When he came upon a group of kids holding down a small female dog and taking turns kicking it and beating it with a cricket bat, Damon told the boys to take a hike.
“They stood there for a bit, then they ran inside,” he said.
A microchip scan by the New Zealand SPCA enabled the battered dog to be reunited with owner Sosefina Leota, who insisted on meeting Damon. “I want to thank him from my heart,” she said. “I want to know his face.”
No doubt Damon saved the dog’s life. Said his grandmother: “It makes you wonder what would have happened if he didn’t step in.”
SPCA inspector Kaycee Polkinghorne said an investigation is under way. “Because of the ages, there’s not a lot we can do prosecution-wise, but it does reinforce the importance of having education in schools about things like this,” she said. “You just have to to wonder what’s going on to make them think this is acceptable behavior.”
Ooof! I want to hug the three of them… that kid is awesome…. and then I want to beat the shit out of those kids. Fucking animals.
It’s the Toto dog! Made famous for it’s part in Wizard of Oz, the Cairn Terrier is full of spunk. Energetic and tenacious, the Cairn Terrier is as confident as they come and knows how to get into trouble. Great with families and any environment but they need to be fenced in or leashed since they like to wander and explore. They are also stubborn and independent so training is not always easy. If you are looking for a dog with a lot of personality, the Cairn Terrier might just be your perfect match.
